Christmas on the Road

-Rowie Briones

Unlike a normal road, Ibabang Dupay road, filled with bright lights grabs the attention of people as they pass along this well lit instragammable highway.

Commuters can’t help but turn their eyes to Christmas lanterns that come in various shapes and sizes everytime they pass through alongside of the Saint Isidore Parish.

One of the shops that's in this light-filled place is Alliyah's Lantern. A simple Christmas light shop that has attracted lots of people's eyes.

They have sold lanterns for two years and as they sell these, they see the happiness of bypassers also they tend to stop and take picture at the lights that resemble Christmas.

Lanterns, Christmas Trees and Parols are sold in their area and the attention-grabbing part of these are the LED lights that are connected to the lanterns and Christmas trees. They also repair broken lanterns brought by buyers.

During The Coconut's interview the owner refused to reveal her name so she just introduced her shop instead. The shop is named after her child, Alliyah, and they started business beside the road because that's where they actually live.

They don't earn much but still it helped a lot since their only work is holding an internet cafe back then. They themselves make and build each lanterns sold, but they still buy metal frames in Pampanga and LED Lights in Quiapo, and after getting each fragment they work on the lanterns.

The making of these goes on an hour-long process. As they compile each part the LED Lights are put on the metal frames using nylon and after that, and the wires are connected to finish the process.

In this road, the lights of Christmas are held high as if it’s Christmas everyday, seeing how people react on how these lights affect them made this place uphold the presence of Christmas.

Christmas only comes in once in a year, but the lights represent the upcoming awaited event of the year, Christmas. And this road enlightens the representation up by showing people the lights of Christmas.

MOVING UP

Graduation. The time where you will have mixed emotions. Accomplishment. Sadness. Happiness. But graduation doesn’t mean that everything will end here. This is just an event when you will leave your school. Where you grow up, made friends, learned and had second home and parents that would take care of you when you are in schooland where you figured out your true personality. This is what just like Carenangel Robles said when I interviewed he about her feelings towards graduating at Quezon National High School.

“Feeling ng grade ten na gagraduate ay sobrang masaya na laungkot dahilaalis ka na sa school na pinanggalingan mo kung saan nahubog ang pagkatao ko. At tsaka marami akong natutunan nung nandito pa ako sa QH. Masaya at malungkot at the same time kasi ang daming memories na nabuo dito.” Carenangel stated.

Indeed, graduation is the time where you say goodbye to your school. Especially when you are so attached to it. And also when you make the best and unforgettable memories in school life. Leaving that place would really be so hard.

But what really matters is that, in school, you’ve learned to love, respect, care, and have discipline that sometimes we cannot learn in our own home. Because basically everyday, we are in school. And besides, what your goal in school will be achieved! Because you are finally graduating. Meaning you are able to finish your studies and you will make your parents proud because they know you worked hard for it. Graduation may be a little sad but w should just think positive because after graduating, your real life will start. So now that you’re graduating, smile, don’t be sad because you earned it.

Fulfilling. Caren Angel Robles genuinely smiles as she graduates with honors during the moving up in Quezon National High School. –Rowie Briones

Ani ng Sining

-Rowie Briones

A day full of dance, music, colors, and arts is well spent during the “aningsining” during the 22nd of February headed by the MAPEH department at the alcala sports complex in Quezon National High School.

The event had many programs and every program does not failed to have an element of art. The event had the street dancing themed dances with grades seven, eight and nine, spoken word poetry band contest and dance contests.

The dances was presented by curricular years was fabulously amazing because they have their colourful and shining props under the sun while they are dancing.  The songs that were used in the dances were all related to Philippines and its arts and culture. The event was well ended by the grade nine students after they performed.

The next segment is the band contest. Every group played the same songs which is perfect and sundo. The big grandstand felt so much love while these bands are playing. But some of the bands didn’t played well. As well as the dance contest. The dancers showed their lit move and dancing skills.

And the last was the spoken word poetry. Each grade level has their representatives to present their most heart breaking hugots. While these people were performing, the audience is expressing their reactions through their “awws” and their faces.

The day ended with the people leaving with smile on their faces and color in their eyes. It seems that even in just one day, they experienced everything about arts.

Inventive. Alexis Belonio creates rice husk gacifier stove that helped the many people in their daily lives. –Rowie Briones

Stove for our Daily Life

-Manuel Machete

Today, it's modern, beautiful, fast and easy. Everything today is simplified and accelerated with the help of modern times and technology. This is why our lives become lighter.

There are now many inventions that can help us in our daily lives. Such as a charger when you walk in you can charge a cellphone or solar powered gadgets and appliances. But this inventor has done something different and better.

He is Alexis Belonio. He is a great researcher and inventor. Alexis has developed and created an invention that is one of the most needed on a daily basis. This is the Rice Husk Gacifier Stove.

This is a type of stove that is not LPG used but rice husk or better known as chaff. He developed it because farming was within his reach. This is why he created this seed in his creation.

This stove is really economical because an LPG tank weighing 600 pesos equals four sacks of chaff that costs only 13 pesos.

In addition to being cheap and economical, it can also help prevent pollution and save the environment. We also have peace of mind when we use it because we have nothing to worry about.

According to Alexis, he also thought of doing this because from 2006 to 2007, there was a widespread energy crisis in the country which meant that there was a supply shortage.

Such an invention is important because it is a great help to not only the people but our country. It could be the development of our country. Little did we know that it could improve us.
